When it comes to classic lines, the 1964 Ford Fairlane is one of the coolest body concepts to ever come out of the Ford styling studios in Dearborn, MI. Long, lean and sleek, the 1964 Fairlane had it all – until now.
The latest creation from Muscle Up Performance is turning a classic Blue Oval ride it into a 21st century showpiece. Best of all, this car – with a completely personalized color scheme – could be yours according to Muscle Up owner Rich Bickle.
“We’ve been working with Murray Pfaff, a great graphic artist out of Michigan,” said Bickle. “We’ve started the build on this car and now is the perfect time to buy it because we can color coordinate it anyway you want. For this car, Murray has provided more than 25 different paint concepts to choose from, but he can personalize this or any car for our customers. He has a real eye for color. Any car he does for any of our customers is going to be totally unique, a one-of-a-kind show quality vehicle. All you have to do is take a look at the concepts for this car to see that.”
While Pfaff is ready to provide the bling for the new Fairlane, Bickle and the Muscle Up crew are adding the bang. Starting with a new Muscle Up Performance full frame replacement chassis, the car is going to have a number of high-tech upgrades.
“We’re going to build the chassis right into the body,” said Bickle. “It will have all the advantages of our Muscle Up Performance full frame bolt in replacements –
improved strength, less flex, and the ability to accommodate performance and safety add ons like coil over suspension, rack and pinion steering, better brakes. This car is going to have air ride suspension, so it should really drive and ride nice when it’s completed.”
Under the hood, the plan is to install a Ford 427 cubic inch powerplant while a T-5 five-speed overdrive transmission will transfer the power to the rear wheels. QA-1 shocks and a Wilwood multi-piston disc brake system will also be among the featured suspension parts.
“Right now, it looks like the engine is going to be fuel injected,” said Bickle. “We’ve also got an original set of the long, cast iron headers for it that are really nice. The plan is to have the exhaust pipes come out in front of the rear wheels. When it’s done, this car is going to be totally cool.”
Adding to the cool factor will be a full restoration – the car will be new from the ground up – and some tweaks that will improve on the already classic look of the original 1964 Ford Fairlane body.
“We’re making a number of body mods to this car,” Bickle stated. “We narrowed the rear bumper up and pulled it into the rear quarter panel. We’re adding some very cool side scoops to the rear quarters to vent the rear brakes and we’ll add some vent ducts to the front to cool the brakes up there too. We’ve also taken all the drip rail off and gottenrid of all the window trim so we can flush mount all the glass. This is going to be an amazing car and somebody is going to be very lucky to own it.”
