Rich Bickle is the latest top short-track star to announce he'll compete in Tuesday's American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour Dixieland150-lap event at Wisconsin International Raceway. The event will feature a
mix of top late model racers along with national stars such as Kyle Busch on the famed Kaukauna oval.
According to the veteran Edgerton, WI driver, Tuesday's ASA event will be extremely competitive.
"If it is anything like last year, it will be a great race," said Bickle. "They had a great field of cars and a lot of competition. I had a good car there last year, but unfortunately, we broke. I think we had something for them at the finish. We just never got there. Hopefully, we'll go back this year and we'll be as good or better."
Bickle has a solid knowledge of the half-mile WIR which was originally opened as KK Speedway in 1969. Throughout his early career in the 1980's and well before he hit the big-time NASCAR ranks, 'KK' as Bickle still calls it was a staple on his regular racing schedule.
"I like racing there, I always have," said Bickle. "It's a fun place to go to. I first raced there in 1983 and I won my first late model race on a half-mile track at Kaukauna in 1984. I also won the Dairyland race there a couple of times. It's always been a great racetrack with a great fan base. I can remember going there for the regular Thursday night races and they'd always have at least 4,000 or 5,000 fans on the hill. It's a great place to race."
This time around, Bickle will pilot a Scott Ollerman owned No. 45 Perlick Chevrolet Monte Carlo late model. In two previous outings in the car this season, Bickle finished sixth in a start-studded event at Madison International Speedway and most recently came home 15th in the Miller Lite Nationals at Slinger Superspeedway, crashing out of the race while running fifth.
"It's a good handling racecar," said Bickle. "It drives good and handling wins these races, so hopefully it will handle good Tuesday night and we can win this race."
The American Speed Association SCAG Power Equipment Dixieland 150 will take the green flag at Wisconsin International Raceway Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Central Time. Practice gets underway at 1 p.m. with qualifying at 4:30. An autograph session is set for 5:30 p.m.
In addition to the ASA headline event, the BRP Big 8 Series late models will take to the track in a 50-lap main event.
Tickets are $20 for fans 16 and older, while fans ages 11-15 can get in for $15. Children 10 and under will be admitted free.
Wisconsin International Raceway is located on Hwy KK just east of Hwy 55 in Kaukauna, WI.
